Our take

AUREA stands on Avenue de Meknès, at the corner with Avenue 9 Avril, in Tétouan's modern town outside the walls: the medina is about 1.3 km away, roughly a 16-minute walk. Guests score it 9.6 out of 10 across 469 reviews, an unusually high result for a three-star with that much feedback. Rooms are air-conditioned and the family rooms have private balconies; there is a restaurant, a sun terrace, a fitness centre and free private parking. It is a modern city hotel, not a dar: if you want to wake up inside the walls, look elsewhere. I would choose it for a road trip along the north coast, when parking and an easy drive out matter more than a patio.

  • Walk into the medina by Place Hassan II, the former Plaza de España in front of the Royal Palace, where the Spanish town meets the old city; the palace is seen from outside only.
  • Tétouan's medina is smaller than Fès el-Bali, with seven historic gates in its walls, so a first visit on foot from the hotel is realistic without hiring a guide at the door.
  • With a car, the free private parking makes AUREA a sensible base for Martil, the sandy beach about 10 km away that Tétouan residents use in summer.
  • Sania Ramel airport is roughly a 12-minute drive away, which helps on a day of early departure.

Why we love it

  • Comfortable family rooms with private balconies
  • On-site restaurant serving international cuisine
  • Fitness centre for staying active
  • Convenient services like a 24-hour front desk
Why guests love it

AUREA's family rooms come with private balconies and air-conditioning, and the free private parking means a family arriving by car unloads at the door instead of searching for a space near the medina. The restaurant serves international dishes, an easy option with children after a day out, and the 24-hour front desk helps with late arrivals from the coast road. The medina is about 16 minutes on foot, manageable with older children, longer with a pushchair on uneven lanes. What it does not offer: no pool appears among its facilities, so beach days mean the drive to Martil, about 10 km away. For a family touring the north by car, I would book it before a medina dar with steep stairs.
